3. India vs Pakistan Sharjah (13 Apr 1984)

The Asia Cup in 1984 was called the Rothmans Asia Cup and was the first edition and was held in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Sunil Gavaskar won the toss and decided to bat first. Surinder Khanna gave India a strong start, scoring 56 runs off 72 balls. Sandeep Patil scored 43 and Gavaskar was unbeaten at 36 runs, with their courtesy India scoring 188/4 from their 46 overs.
In reply, opener Mohsin Khan scored 35 runs off 65 balls but Pakistan lost wickets at regular while attempting to chase down 189, and nobody really got going and contributed to the effort. Although Pakistan’s captain Zaheer Abbas was the eighth wicket to fall, their hopes ended, as they were dismissed for 134 from 39.4 overs. The bowlers selected by India to win the match were Roger Binny (3/33) and Ravi Shastri (3/40).
