Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were seen practising in the nets ahead of the third Test against Australia in Indore. Gill was benched in the previous two matches and KL Rahul didn’t have any major contribution to India’s win in both Tests.

There has been a lot of debate about who should open with Rohit in the third Test as Rahul’s current form hasn’t been so great. Meanwhile. Gill has been tremendous with the bat over the past few months. Smashing his maiden Test hundred against Bangladesh, a double hundred in ODI, and a T20I hundred against New Zealand has made Gill one of the key players for India across the formats.

However, at the post-match conference of the Delhi Test, Rohit said that the team is backing Rahul as they are aware of his ability to score runs and perform overseas. He also mentioned his century at Lords in 2021.

“Of course, when you are playing on pitches like these, you need to find your method of scoring runs. As I said, different individuals are part of these teams and they will have different methods of scoring runs. Find your own methods of doing this. We are not going to look into what one individual is doing, but rather what the entire team is doing. This is an important series for us, a big one, and that’s my thought on KL,” said Rohit at the press conference after the match.

India removes Rahul as a vice-captain in ODIs

Rahul has already been sacked from the vice-captaincy in ODIs as Hardik Pandya will play the role of Rohit’s deputy in the upcoming ODI series against the Aussies. Fans have been demanding to Indian team management to stop giving unlimited chances to Rahul and go for in-form Gill in the next match.

India are already leading in a four-match series by 2-0 and they have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the fourth consecutive time. A win in Indore will not only result in a series win for the hosts but also a spot in the Test Championship final.
