Two-time champions Argentina took on the defending champions France in the title clash of the 22^nd edition of the FIFA World Cup. Lusail Stadium of Doha in Qatar hosted this match between two teams who had won the World Cup two times in the past. Both teams started the match with the same lineup of 4-3-3 each.

Speaking of the appearance in the final of the tournament for both teams, the French team qualified for the second consecutive time after a win in the previous edition in 2018. On the other hand, Messi’s men qualified for the finals after a gap of eight years. The last time when Argentina played a final in this prestigious football quadrennial, they lost to Germany in a penalty shoot-out in 2014.

Argentina continued with their brilliance in the semi-final in the initial part of the first half, the first chance came for them in the 23^rd minute of the match when skipper Messi converted a penalty into a goal to help his team to take a lead of 1-0 in the early minutes of the match.

Later on, the 34-year-old senior winger Angel De Maria smashed a stunner to increase the lead from 1-0 to 2-0 in favor of his team.

Messi’s men maintained this lead till the end of the maximum part of the second half of the match, but the celebrated and star French center-forward Kylian Mbappe completely turned the tables in the 80^th minute of the match by converting a penalty into a goal.

Keeping his adrenaline high, Mbappe scored the second consecutive goal within a few minutes in the 82^nd minute of the match. It miraculously changed the numbers on the scorecard of the match to an equal scoreline of 2-2.

Messi went on to turn the table in favor of Argentina during the second half of the extra time when he took the score line to 3-2 for his team. But the match didn’t end here only, Mbappe cleared a penalty into a goal to take the match to the penalty Shoot-out.
