The riveting action in the FIFA World Cup 2022 continued on the second day as the fans were treated with three mouth-watering encounters. The first match of the day was between Iran and England which turned out to be a high-scoring affair as England completely outplayed Iran by netting the ball six times.

Jude Bellingham opened the account for England scoring the first goal in the 35th minute. Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka further helped Gareth Southgate’s side establish a comfortable 3-0 lead before half-time.

Saka produced a brilliant individual effort to take England further ahead just past the hour mark before Mehdi Taremi scored a consolation goal for Iran. Substitutes Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish further piled on the agony for Iran as they took their lead to 6-2 and ended up winning the first Group B encounter.

Netherlands vs Senegal

The second game of the night was between Netherlands and Senegal. The Netherlands were up against the strong defence of Senegal which rendered them goal-less in the first half. The Dutch were dominant in the first half at the Al Thumama Stadium but failed to grab chances.

They further looked desperate for a goal much of the second half until Cody Gakpo helped them take a lead in the 85th minute of the match. Another goal from Davy Klassen in the final minute of the game ensured Louis van Gaal’s side enjoyed a 2-0 victory in the positive encounter.

USA vs Wales

The third match of the day was between the USA vs Wales. The third match turned out to be a closely fought affair at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium. US looked to be dominating the first half and opened their account by scoring late in the first half.

Timothy Weah netted the ball in the 36th minute to give US the lead at half-time, but Gareth Bale struck from the penalty spot late in the second half to earn Wales an important point and level the score. The match ended in a draw with the score levelled at 1-1 at full time with both the teams taking one point each.
