Female Fan asks out Ben Stokes from stands, his response goes viral

New Zealand and England are battling it out in the second Test match at Basin Reserve in Wellington. England need 210 runs on Day 5 to win the Test series 2-0. The visitors scored 435-8 in the first innings of the two-match Test series on the back of Joe Root’s 153 off 224 balls with 10 fours and three sixes and Harry Brook’s 186 off 176 balls with 24 fours and five sixes.

Matt Henry was New Zealand’s best bowler as he picked up 4-100 in the first innings in 22.1 overs. Over the course of the game, a light-hearted moment was caught on camera by the cameraman. The incident involved a girl and his friend who was seated in the stands putting out a unique placard for Ben Stokes.

It read: “Ben, my boyfriend’s here to see the cricket. I’m here to see you.”

“Biggest question is which Ben? Is it Foakes or Duckett or… one of the commentators reacted to it and asked a funny question on air.

The camera then immediately panned on Stokes, who nodded his head. It is not known whether the nod was to the girl and a friend or to anyone of his teammates. The banter continued in the commentary box as the commentators did not stop talking about the incident.

‘It’s Stokes based on the colour of the hair of her boyfriend.” another commentator said.

“Jonny Bairstow was spotted” said a comment on social media.

The friend of the girl, who put out the placard, looked very much like England batter Johnny Bairstow.

In the end, New Zealand set England a target of 258 runs in the fourth innings, At the end of Day 4, England ended proceedings on 48-1. Zak Crawley made 24 off 30 balls with five fours before he was dismissed by Tim Southee. Ben Duckett and Ollie Robinson were batting on 23 off 29 balls with one four and one six and 1 off 7 balls at stumps on Day 4.

England have revamped their Test Cricket via the bazball philosophy which was engineered by England’s Test coach Brendon McCullum. England have reaped great results so far. The Three Lions had recently won a Test series in Pakistan which was a three-nil whitewash on Pakistan soil.
