Recently sacked Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja is in the news for all the wrong reasons these days. The former cricketer has publicly lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board as well as the newly appointed chairman, Najam Sethi.

He has levied multiple allegations on the board and has said that multiple rules have been changed so that Sethi could replace Raja at the helm of the cricket board. Following Raja’s public outburst, his former teammate Aqib Javed has weighed on the controversy and revealed that he had suggested Raja to step down from the post.

“Ramiz Raja was a one-man show in PCB which he admits himself. He was given a chance to work for the betterment of Pakistan Cricket. Now let Najam Sethi work in PCB. I advised Ramiz Raja to resign from his position and let the newly appointed Government bring the new Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), but he didn’t listen to me,” Cricket Pakistan quoted Aqib as saying.

Javed has given his approval to the change and has said that it would be better for Pakistan cricket.

“Ramiz Raja himself should have resigned after Imran Khan’s government ended. Almost everyone, including PSL franchises, was sad during Ramiz Raja’s Chairmanship in PCB,” he said. “Najam Sethi has started well; the restoration of departments and regional teams will benefit our cricket a lot, and the players will get employment.”

Legal action could be taken against Raja

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board threatened to take legal action against Raja after his allegations on the board.

“The PCB believes former chairman Mr. Raja’s comments are aimed at tarnishing and damaging the impeccable reputation of present Chairman Mr. Sethi, adding it reserves its rights to pursue legal proceedings to protect and defend the image and credibility of its Chairman and the institution.”

Raja was made the chairman in September 2021 for a three years term but was replaced after Pakistan’s loss in Asia Cup 2022 final as well as the 20-20 World Cup final.
