In the 8th match of the SA20 2023, Durban Super Giants squared off against the Paarl Royals. The Super Giants won the toss and chose to bat first, amassing 216-4 in their 20 overs. Kyle Mayers and Wiaan Mulder provided a good start to the side. Mayers made 39 off 23 balls with six fours and one six. Mulder made 42 off 33 balls with four fours and one six.

The carnage continued as Quinton de Kock made 57 off 31 balls with five fours and four sixes. He was dismissed by Evan Jones off the bowling of Lungi Ngidi in the fourth ball of the 14th over. The right-arm pacer bowled an off-cutter outside the off-stump and made De Kock play the cut. He could not control the shot. It was a thick outside edge and two fielders collided. Jones held on to the catch despite the collision.
