The test team for India’s match against Australia in the Test Championship final was unveiled on Tuesday by the All-India Senior Selection Committee. At The Oval in London, the Test Championship final will begin on June 7. India would be looking for redemption after they lost the inaugural Test Championship final against New Zealand in 2021.
The 15-person squad’s most prominent addition is Ajinkya Rahane, who rejoins Team India after a 15-month absence. In January 2022, he played his final game in South Africa. Rahane, who is excelling in the IPL 2023, will assist the team in replacing Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer in the lineup.
India’s batting will become stronger thanks to the senior batsman in these seam and swing-friendly conditions. Rishabh Pant continues to be rehabilitating from the car accident he sustained in December of last year, while Shreyas Iyer has been sidelined with a back issue and just underwent surgery. They might be a major miss for the Indian side in a contest like this against a formidable side like Australia
Shardul Thakur, the all-around player, has also been added to the roster and it will be interesting to find out if he ultimately cracks the Playing XI. India would struggle to play the spin combination of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel in pace-friendly conditions. One or two spinners are anticipated to be used by India against Australia at the Oval. Then Shardul Thakur might enter the game to increase India’s batting strength and offer another bowling option.
For the pace conditions, the Indian Board have opted to go for four primary fast bowlers in the form of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat. Jasprit Bumrah’s absence in this major final would be crucial to India’s chances. He continues to be on the sidelines and has just started rehabilitating from the recurring back injury that has kept him out of the game since September 2022.

Experience matter at the big stage and Rahane will play at 5 for us. No point in playing KL.

Bowling line up is weak… without Bumrah we can't win

KL should keep instead of Bharat. I don't think Bharat can survive in that condition.

Good! As I predicted Rahane has come in. Hope he continues his form into the WTC.
