England announce squads for limited-overs series against India

England has announced their white-ball squad for the limited-overs series against India. After the recently retired English white-ball captain Eoin Morgan, the responsibility has been shouldered on Jos Butler.

Ben Stokes has been included in the ODI squad despite a rotation policy in place in English cricket. The Test captain had a face-to-face chat with the board, and seems to have persuaded the hierarchy in allowing him game time against India. He might be rested for the upcoming Test series against South Africa at home.

Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow also return to the ODI side after completing their rest in the T20I series. The two batters have been playing since the New Zealand series and are in need of a rest. Dawid Malan, the fourth-ranked T20I player, has been awarded a place in the T20 side but has not been included in the ODIs. Harry Brook, the in-form Yorkshire batter, has also been given a place in the T20I as well as the ODI squad.

Meanwhile, Adil Rashid’s absence due to The Hajj pilgrimage has allowed Matt Parkinson a place in the limited-overs squad. Richard Gleeson, the uncapped pacer also finds a place in the T20I squad. Craig Overton, who missed his chance on the Test side, has been called upon for the ODI series.

India and England will go head-to-head in a three-match T20I series and three-match ODI series after the conclusion of the Test match starting on July 1. The first match of the T20I series would be held on 7th July.
