India will not have the services of Mohammed Siraj in the West Indies ODIs as the right-arm pacer has made the trip back to India. The Indian Cricket Board arrived at this decision to manage Siraj’s workload. The fast bowler went back with members of the Test side. This included the likes of KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin, Navdeep Saini and Ajinkya Rahane. With Siraj not playing in the ODI series, India have lost its trump card in the pace department.

The pace department for the Men in Blue will have the likes of Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar, Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat. Without Siraj, the pace attack will have a lot of inexperience. Interestingly, the Indian Cricket Board is yet to name a replacement for the 29-year-old. India will play three ODI’s against the West Indies followed by 5 T20Is which will be held in West Indies and the USA. Despite being a World Cup year, the Men in Blue have a jam-packed cricketing calendar.

Shimron Hetmyer and Oshane Thomas have made a comeback to the West Indies ODI squad

They will play in the Asia Cup which will start on August 30. Then they will play three ODIs against Australia. The T20Is against the Kangaroos will however be played later after the ODI World Cup. Siraj has been in good form for India. In the second Test at Trinidad, he took  5-60 in his spell of 23.4 overs. When we talk about Siraj in ODIs he has picked up 43 wickets in 24 matches at an average of 20.72 with an economy rate of 4.78. The right-arm pacer has two four-wicket hauls in ODIs.

When it comes to the West Indies squad, they have two comeback men who are Shimron Hetmyer and Oshane Thomas, Alick Athanaze who impressed in the two-match Test series against India, has also earned an ODI call-up. Nicholas Pooran will not be a part of the ODI series due to his commitments to Major League Cricket. Gudakesh Montie and Yannick Cariah will spearhead the spin department for the Men In Maroon.
