‘Ek double humare against marke hi Jayega’- Fans react as reports of David Warner retiring from Test cricket in 2024 emerge
In big news coming in from the cricketing world, David Warner has said that he will play his last Test in 2024. He hinted that his last game in the longer format will most likely be at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Pakistan in January. The left-hander will hope to continue playing in 50 over and T20 cricket for Australia until the 2024 20-20 World Cup, which is slated to take place in West Indies and USA.
“If I can get through this (WTC final and ensuing Ashes campaign) and make the Pakistan series I will definitely finish up then,” Warner was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au. “I probably owe it to myself and my family – if I can score runs here and continue to play back in Australia – I can definitely say I won’t be playing that West Indies series.”. Warner added. “You’ve got to score runs. I’ve always said the (2024) World Cup would probably be my final game,” Warner stated.
David Warner had an average of 9.50 during the last Ashes series
Warner will have his task cut out in the upcoming Ashes that will take place after the World Test Championship final. The southpaw has scored 8158 runs in 103 games with the highest score of 335 in the red-ball game. The man from Sydney has an average of 45.57 and a strike rate of 71.03. The 36-year-old has hit 34 fifties and 25 hundreds in an accomplished Test career so far. If this is indeed Warner’s last full year in cricket, then he would want to sign out with a bang.
Warner did not have the best of Test tours in India as he struggled against spin. Warner did not have the best of times in the previous Ashes series as well as he registered a paltry average of 9.50 across 10 innings. Stuart Broad had Warner’s number when Australia and England played last time. From Australia’s point of view, they would want Warner to be in red-hot form come the WTC final.
Australia and India will face each other between 7 to 11 June at the Oval in the WTC final. The dukes ball will be used for the big match. India will want to come out strong and end their 9-year trophy drought come the big game having lost the 2021 final to New Zealand.

Don’t think he is making it that far. I’ll be surprised if he retains his place for the whole series.

He doesn't need to retire. Anyways they aren't going to pick him after upcoming ashes.
