‘Dream Start for Dubai Capitals’- Twitter ecstatic as Dubai Capitals trump Abu Dhabi Knight Riders by 73 runs

The Dubai Capitals overpowered the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders with a 73-run win and also ensured victory in the first game of the International League T20. Robin Uthappa and Rovman Powell shined with the bat for the Dubai Capitals. The match took place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium with the Knight Riders opting to bowl first.

Robin Uthappa and Joe Root opened the batting for Dubai Capitals, and Uthappa smashed a quickfire 43 off 33 balls with three fours and two sixes. Root made a quick 26 off 21 balls with two fours and two sixes. At 84-3, the match was hanging in the balance but Powell came and played a captain’s innings at number four with 48 off 29 balls with three fours and three sixes. Dubai kept scoring at a quick rate to get to 187-6 in their 20 overs. The finishing touches were provided by Ravi Bopara who made 12 off 4 balls with one four and one six and Isuru Udana who made 11 off 3 balls with one four and one six.

Capitals restricted Abu Dhabi to just 114-9

The Knight Riders were not up to the mark with the bat as they could not get going with the bat, barring Paul Sterling who made 54 off 38 balls with five fours and two sixes at the top of the order. No one else supported the Irishman. The next highest scorer was Andre Russell who made 12 off 12 balls with one four batting at 6. The ended up with just 114-9 in their 20 overs.

The Capitals bowlers stepped up to the plate and picked up wickets to curtail the Knight Riders from scoring. Akif Raja picked up 2-20 in his two overs. Mujeeb Ur Rehman picked up 2-16 in four overs. Powell chipped in with the ball as well as picked up 2-15 in his two overs. In the end, The Capitals got a 73-run win over the Knight Riders. Let us take a look at the reactions here-
