After spending more than 100 days in the Bigg Boss house, stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui was crowned the 17th season’s winner. In the end, he emerged victorious against actor Abhishek Kumar. Bigg Boss 17 finally has a winner after three months of challenges, brawls, switching allegiances, and copious amounts of drama. In front of the top two finalists, Abhishek Kumar and Munawar Faruqui, host Salman Khan revealed the winner just after midnight on Monday. After a close final against Abhishek, stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui was declared the winner.
From the start, both Abhishek and Munawar were heavy favourites to win the title. Abhishek relied on his enormous popularity on television, while Munawar brought with him his victory from a similar reality show based on captivity, which he won in 2022. Munawar Faruqui is a well-known but contentious stand-up comedian. 2020 saw him post a video on his YouTube channel to launch his comedic career. Later that year, he transitioned to stand-up comedy. A BJP MLA’s son accused him of inciting hatred and making hurtful jokes about Hindu deities during his stand-up show in Indore in January 2021, sparking controversy. Due to hate speech laws in India, Munawar was detained for 37 days before being released the following month. His apprehension sparked protests and backlash.
In February 2022, Munawar started his journey with Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Lock Upp‘ season 1. Munawar’s celebrity was further cemented when he emerged victorious from the show. Munawar came into the Bigg Boss house intending to repeat his success from ‘Lock Upp‘ there as well. Popular TV actor Abhishek Kumar is most recognised for his role as Amrik in Udaariyaan.
Abhishek became an overnight celebrity after the show debuted on Colours in 2021. Together with Isha Malviya, the actor created a popular on-screen couple. Later, the two started dating, but their relationship ended badly. He started out as an influencer on social media, posting videos on TikTok. However, he switched to creating YouTube videos after the platform was outlawed in India. He eventually turned to acting and became well-known for Udaariyaan.
