‘Does it make sense..’- Dinesh Karthik slams Vijay Hazare Trophy format after N Jagadeesan’s record-breaking 277 (141) blows Arunachal Pradesh away
Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan created a world record as he smashed his way to 277 against Arunachal Pradesh in Vijay Hazare Trophy. En route to his double century, the right-hand batter broke multiple records and added another big score to his rich vein of form.
In the process, Jagadeesan also broke Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara’s record of four consecutive tons in List-A ODIs. Following Jagadeesan’s exploits, Dinesh Karthik who was Tamil Nadu’s regular captain congratulated Jagadeesan for his record-breaking knock.
Taking to Twitter Karthik wrote, “World Record alert. What an amazing effort by Jagadeesan. Couldn’t be happier for him. Big things await. Sai Sudarshan what an amazing tournament so far. This opening combo is killing it. Well done boys Tamil Nadu cricket.”

The 37-year-old however also criticised the Vijay Hazare Trophy format for allowing an elite team like Tamil Nadu to play against a minnow Arunachal Pradesh.
“Also on another side note. Does it make sense to have the northeast teams play the elite teams in the league phase. It just topples the run rates of teams and imagine if a match against one of these teams gets rained off! Can’t they have a separate group and then qualify?” wrote Karthik on his Twitter handle.
Also on another side note
Does it make sense to have the north east teams play the elite teams in the league phase .

The Vijay Hazare tournament follows a round-robin format which pits 38 teams divided into 5 groups with each other. Following the group stage, there is a playoff that qualified teams have to go through.
The match between Tamil Nadu and Arunachal Pardesh was a one-sided affair as Tamil Nadu created a mammoth 506/2 in 50 overs in the first innings on the back of Jagadeesan’s 277 and Sai Sudharsan’s 154.
Biggest win in List- A cricket
In reply, Arunachal Pradesh could only muster 71 runs and lost by a record-breaking 435 runs which is the biggest margin of loss in a List- A match.
As for Jagadeesan, he was recently released by the Chennai franchise for the upcoming Indian T20 League and is expected to go for a big amount in the mini-auction that is scheduled on December 23rd in Kochi.
