Gautam Gambhir is in the news yet again as he was seen during the Asia Cup 2023. The former Indian opener made headlines for his latest haircut. The 41-year-old is part of the Star Sports commentary panel for Hindi audiences. Gambhir, along with the likes of former teammates Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Mohammad Kaif, and Piyush Chawla, will be seen giving their expert opinions during the tournament.

Gambhir was seen sporting a short haircut during the preview for the Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh game. The game is being played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium as Asia Cup 2023 saw its 2^nd game. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and chose to bat first. The conditions were murky with rains around as the three-time runners-up Bangladesh took on defending champions Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka came into the game with a depleted bowling attack. The pace trio of Dilshan Madushanka, Lahiru Kumar, and Dushmanta Chameera were ruled out of the tournament. Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is expected to miss at least the first part of the tournament due to illness.

Sri Lanka began well by getting three early wickets as the score read 36/3. Tanzid Hasan was out for a duck, while Mohammad Naim was out for 16. The third wicket was that of Captain Shakib Al Hasan who fell for 5. The wickets fell to the spin duo of Theekshana and Dhananjaya De Silva.

Najmul Shanto and Towhid Hridoy added 59 runs for the 4^th wicket before the Lankan skipper Shanaka struck. Hridoy was out for 20 to make it 95/4. Pathirana who had dismissed Shakib got yet another veteran in Mushfiqur Rahim for 13 before Mehidy Hasan Miraz was run out for 5. Bangladesh could only manage 164 runs on the board as they were all-out in the 43rd over of their innings.

Speaking of Gautam Gambhir, the veteran former Indian player did not have a happy return to the game. In the 7 games he played in the US Master’s T10 league, Gambhir could score only four runs from the three innings he played. Gambhir’s future with Lucknow Super Giants is also speculated with the arrival of Justin Langer as the head coach.
