Australia won their third game of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign on Wednesday in New Delhi. With this win, the Australians now have six points from five games and held onto their fourth place in the points.

Earlier in the day Australia had scored 399 for the loss of eight wickets after Pat Cummins decided to bat first. The Australians made one change with Marcus Stoinis being replaced by Cameron Green for the game.

The five-time World Cup winners had beaten Sri Lanka and Pakistan in their previous two encounters. This after losing their first two games to India and South Africa to be placed at the bottom of the table at one stage.

Australia swat aside the Dutch challenge

Mitchell Marsh was out for just 9 when he fell to Logan Van Beek caught by Colin Ackermann. Steve Smith finally got amongst the runs as he scored 71 runs from just 68 balls. David Warner then stole the show with his 22nd ODI century when he hit a four to get to the mark. This was also the second century in as many games for the 36-year-old Australian opener.

Marnus Labuschagne kept the scoreboard ticking as he went after the Dutch bowlers. The 29-year-old scored 62 runs from just 47 balls with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. This though was not the end of the misery that was to be inflicted on the Dutch bowling. Glenn Maxwell took charge of the run-scoring as the 34-year-old cut lose to score the fastest century in ODI World Cup history. Maxwell broke the 18-day record held by Aiden Markram at the same venue when the South African had scored his ton off just 49 balls.

Australia scored over 107 runs in just under 8 overs to post 399 on the board. Bas De Leede had a day to forget as he gave away 115 runs from his ten overs while picking two wickets. Logan Van Beek was the lead bowler with 4/74 from his ten overs with the ball.

Chasing 400 to win, the Dutch batters were never in the hunt as the Australian bowlers showed their class. Vikramjit Singh began the chase well with 25 runs off 25 balls but once he fell the Dutch batting just fell apart.
