New Zealand opening batter Devon Conway will miss the first Test match against Australia in Wellington. He is ruled out due to thumb injury while keeping in the second T20I series against Australia in Auckland. While it is likely that Will Young will take his place in the top order for the Test match.

He went for scans and later it revealed that there was no fracture to his thumb. In the following, he couldn’t keep and bat and was out for the last T20I series against Australia as they won the T20I series by 3-0. Meanwhile, Henry Nicholls has been added to the Test team that will face Australia.

“It’s disappointing for Devon to be ruled out on the eve of an important match,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead said. “He’s a class player batting at the top of the order for us and I know he was looking forward to this series.”

In the meanwhile, Devon Conway’s fitness will be tested before the final diagnosis of his injury. The second Test match against Australia will start from 8th March Christchurch. While Rachin Ravindra’s injury will also be an issue for New Zealand. He got a pain in his left knee and missed the final T20I match. Ahead of the Test match New Zealand coach Gary Stead confirmed that he will be available for the first match.

Australia are a very good side –  Gary Stead

“I think in hindsight, we probably got that wrong the way that the pitch did behave,” Stead said. “We’ve certainly got Mitch Santner here as that option and we’ll certainly consider him as well.” (Source: India Today)

“We don’t play Australia that often, which is strange considering that they’re just across the Tasman there,” Gary Stead said. “But, look, they always set the benchmark and are current world Test champions and they are that for a reason. They’re a very good side. But that’s our opportunity. And that’s for us to go out and I guess show our wares and we’re certainly looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.”(Source: India Today)
