Amid the ongoing controversy over timed out, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the remaining ODI World Cup 2023. The senior all-rounder will be unavailable to play in their last league game against Australia in Pune on Saturday, November 11.

Merely a day following the ‘timed-out controversy’ involving Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, the latter has been ruled out of his team’s final World Cup match due to an injury. Bangladesh is set to face the formidable Australia in their final World Cup fixture, but Shakib will not be part of the team for that game as he has fractured a finger on his left hand.

Despite being out of the World Cup semi-final race, Bangladesh is still vying for a place in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The duration of Shakib’s absence due to the injury has yet to be determined, but his unavailability does affect Bangladesh’s prospects against Australia. The game will be an important clash for both teams, as Australia’s qualification for the semifinals might be affected by that.

Shakib Al Hasan fractured his index finger

According to Bangladesh physio skipper Shakib Al Hasan, he got hurt on his left index finger while batting against Sri Lanka. Soon after the game, he went for an X-ray, which revealed a fracture in his finger. “Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game, which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint”, says a Bangladeshi physio.

“Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab”, he further added. It’s worth noting that with a win against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh remains in the race for a spot in the Champions Trophy 2025. However, the South Asian team will need to beat the mighty Aussies in Pune on November 11 to confirm their place in the prestigious tournament.
