‘Dedication towards his son’- Fans react as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s father goes to Kanwar Yatra following his century in first Test against West Indies

India won the first Test match at Dominica by an innings and 141 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal created history against the West Indies in the first Test at Dominica. The left-handed batter slammed a memorable 171 off 387 balls with 16 fours and one six. After Jaiswal smashed a century on his debut, his father Bhupendra Jaiswal left on a Kanwar Yatra to Jharkhand on Friday.

People in Suriyawan in Bhadohi district, the birthplace of Yashasvi, were over the moon after Yashasvi was handed the Test cap and was sent in to bat at the top of the order with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal has proven his batting prowess in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Mumbaikar has scored 1172 runs so far in his IPL career with his highest score being 124 against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2023.

“I am leaving home with a wish that Yashasvi’s century is converted into double hundred. While offering ‘jal abhishek’ at Baba Dham (Lord Baidyanath’s temple), I will seek blessings for my son and his hard work to yield good results and that he brings laurels for the country,” Bhupendra said. He wore a Saffron attire and was seen with a pot that was filled with water from the Ganga. “My family, the entire Bhadohi and the country celebrated the moment when Yashasvi completed the century. Everyone was congratulating us. All were happy and enjoyed the moment,” Bhupendra added.

Bhupendra left for Baba Dham to pray for Jaiswal’s well-being. “I will be seeking blessings of Baba to grant success to my son in every way.” Jaiswal joined an elite list of Indians who have hit centuries on Test debut, Thanks to his heroics, India registered a big win by an innings and 141 runs against the West Indies and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. The 21-year-old also picked up the Player of the Match award to show for his efforts.

Jaiswal was extremely emotional at the post-match presentation where he said, “It was a long journey. I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me. I want to dedicate this to my mother and father, they’ve contributed a lot. Thanks to god. I won’t say much now… I’m happy. This is just a start, I’ve a lot to do,”. People will be hoping that this is just a start of a long career for him.
