David Warner credits wife Candice for his stellar career in emotional Instagram post

David Warner also wove a new layer onto his cricketing tapestry- one of infectious joy and genuine connection with the fans.

David Warner’s final Test, the recent 3rd Test between Australia and Pakistan, marked the end of a remarkable career, one destined to ignite a passion for cricket in countless young minds. Across 112 Tests, he carved his name into cricketing history with 8,786 runs, a stellar average of 44.59, and a blistering strike rate exceeding 70. But the true testament to his greatness lies in his longevity, conquering one of the most demanding roles in modern cricket – the opening batsman – with 26 magnificent centuries to his name. Warner’s legacy stands tall, a beacon of unwavering grit and explosive talent, forever etched in the annals of Test cricket.

In recent years, Warner also wove a new layer onto his cricketing tapestry- one of infectious joy and genuine connection with the fans. We saw him grooving to stadium music, sharing his gloves with wide-eyed youngsters, and transforming into a pure entertainer. However, this wasn’t always the case. Early in his career, Warner’s intensity sometimes spilt over, leading to controversies that threatened to overshadow his talent.

Warner credits his wife for the transformation

Post his farewell game, Warner credited his wife, Candice for ‘bringing him in line’ and ensuring that he goes on to have a long and successful career. Today, on Instagram, he delved deeper, expressing his gratitude for her role in instilling discipline in him. Initially resistant to Candice’s 4 am wake-up calls, believing cricketers didn’t need such early starts, Warner eventually embraced the routine. With time, he saw the true value- not just in the pre-dawn hours, but in the broader sense of discipline this practice fostered and the positive shift it brought to his mindset.

“What can I say!!! Honestly, you, @candywarner1, are the reason I made it this far. I’ve said it many times before 4 am wake-ups, you’re off your head. Cricket players do not need to do this, but the thought of what discipline meant to me was that I didn’t know the real meaning. We don’t train at that hour, we don’t play at that hour, but what it does do is change mindset to what impossible is to be made possible. I can’t thank you enough for entering my world and giving me the best chance of doing what I love for as long as I did”, he wrote.
