‘Cristiano and Messi in the same league again…’ – Saudi football official gives big update on potential Lionel Messi transfer
Cristiano Ronaldo played his first game in Saudi Arabia last week where PSG and a Saudi All-Star XI faced off in Riyadh, which PSG won 5-4. Ronaldo scored two goals for his side and Lionel Messi scored one for PSG. Messi and Ronaldo exchanged warm greetings, and everyone felt that it could be their last game against each other.
Messi and Ronaldo could lock horns against each other in Saudi Arabian football as Messi could potentially leave PSG and sign a possible transfer. Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) General Secretary Ibrahim Alkassim said the attacker has not signed a contract extension with PSG. As per reports, Al Ittihad and Al Hilal are also interested in having Messi on board.
The Saudi Federation would like to have Messi play in the domestic league -Alkassim
“At the moment we do not know anything about a possible Lionel Messi arrival. Although I will not hide that, as the Saudi Federation, we would like to have him one day in the domestic league.” Alkassim said when he spoke to Marca. “The idea of the Federation is always to improve our football, and of course we would like to see Cristiano and Messi in the same league again, but the truth is that we don’t know anything now.”
Messi’s contract is set to lapse this summer and if he switches clubs then he will be wanting to win the UEFA Champions League when he plays with the Ligue 1 side. Messi had his crowning moment of glory in Qatar when Argentina beat France on penalties 4-2 after the scores were tied 3-3 after extra time. It was not the same for Portugal as they had crashed out of the quarterfinals of the World Cup against Morocco.
Ronaldo set the ball rolling for Al Nassr in the debut game as his presence lit up the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh. He was in good form in the game although he failed to make a significant influence in the match, he had made a mark in the match. Talisca netted one into the goal which helped Al Nassr get a win against Ettifaq.
