In a major announcement on Thursday, the Cricket Governing Body said that equal prize money will be in play when it comes to World events for Men and Women cricketers. The next important thing that the Cricket Governing Body addressed was in relation to addressing overrate offences in Test Cricket. Both men’s and Women’s teams will receive equivalent prize money at comparable world events.

The same guidelines will be applied when it comes to winning matches in world events. The Cricket Governing Body also stated about the massive rise in terms of investment into the sport. This was looked at after the revenue distribution model was given the go-ahead by all parties involved. Every member who is a part of the Cricket Governing Body will see a larger chunk of money coming in which is lined with Global Growth programmes which is a part of the Global Growth strategy of the Cricket Governing Body.

The Cricket Governing Body also addressed the concerns in relation to the overate in Test Cricket

“The decision was taken at the ICC Annual Conference in Durban, South Africa and ensures the Board fulfilled its commitment to reaching prize money equity by 2030 well ahead of schedule,” The Cricket Governing Body said in an official statement. The committee also made several ratifications to the over-rate offences in Test cricket. The rules will kick off in the new World Test Championship cycle where players will be fined 5 per cent of their match fee for each over that falls short, with a maximum penalty of 50 per cent.

“This is a significant moment in the history of our sport and I am delighted that men’s and women’s cricketers competing at global events will now be rewarded equally. Since 2017 we have increased prize money at women’s events every year with a clear focus on reaching equal prize money and from here on in, winning the Women’s Cricket World Cup will carry the same prize money as winning the Men’s Cricket World Cup and the same for T20 World Cups and U19s too,” Cricket Governing Body Chairman Greg Barclay said in a statement.

“The champions and runners-up of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 and 2023 won USD 1 million and USD 500,000, respectively, a fivefold increase over the sum awarded in 2018,” The statement added. “The prize money for the  Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 has been increased to USD 3.5 million, up from USD 2 million for winning the 2017 edition in England,” The statement further read.
