India had a splendid show at Commonwealth Games on Day 11, the final day of the Commonwealth Games 2022. India’s medal tally stood at 61. Shuttler Lakshya Sen won gold in men’s singles badminton, and PV Sindhu also won the Gold Medal in Badminton Women’s Singles on the final day in Birmingham.

India got a lot of medals on the final day of the event on Monday. Boxers Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal, and Nitu Ghanghas grab maiden CWG gold medals. India’s 61 medals include 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze medals.

On August 7, the Indian women’s cricket team won a silver medal in women’s T20 cricket in Commonwealth Games. They succumbed to the big stage fright to suffer a nine-run defeat against Australia in the gold medal match of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

It was raining gold for India on Sunday in Birmingham, boxer Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the final of the 48kg-50kg (Light Flyweight) boxing match, at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Nikhat, who is on a winning spree since the Nationals last year, asserted her dominance over Northern Ireland’s Carly Mc Naul as she punched her way to a comprehensive 5-0 win in her maiden CWG appearance.

Nitu Ghanghas, daughter of an employee in Haryana Vidhan Sabha, won the first boxing gold medal for India at Commonwealth Games 2022.

Annu Rani won the bronze medal in the Women’s javelin throw during the athletics competition at Alexander Stadium. Before Rani, in 2010 Kashinath Naik had won a bronze and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra had won a gold in the men’s javelin throw.

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won bronze in men’s singles table tennis. Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy won gold in men’s doubles badminton. The Indian Men’s hockey team emerged the second beat and bagged silver after losing to Australia in the final.

India came behind Australia, England and Canada who finished with 178, 176 and 92 medals, respectively.

In terms of Medals won, the Birmingham games are India’s fifth best performance, with the topmost performance coming in 2010 when India hosted the games in Delhi. India had won 101 medals then, which still remains the country’s highest medal tally to date.
