Commonwealth Games 2022 will go on until August 8. And the medal tally count is already increasing day by day. Australia is currently topping the medal tally with 32 medals. They have won thirteen gold medals, eight silver medals and eleven bronze medals as of now. New Zealand stands second with 13 medals.

India did exceptionally well on the second day of the Commonwealth Games 2022. The notable win is gold from champion Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting. India has bagged four medals so far in the multi-sport event and all medals have come from weightlifters. Here’s how India performed on day 2 of the Commonwealth Games 2022:

Weightlifting:

India outclassed in the weightlifting category. The weightlifters did exceptionally well. Sanket Singh Sargar, Mirabai Chanu, Gururaja, Bindyarani Devi won medals for India. Sanket bagged silver, Mirabai bagged gold, Gururaja bagged bronze and Bindyarani Devi won silver for India, respectively.

Table Tennis:

India men’s team beat Northern Ireland by 3-0. They topped the group with three wins out of three. The women’s team won three out of three matches that they played. They won their last group encounter by beating Guyana 3-0.

Manika Batra and Reeth Tennison lost to Ying Ho to end the campaign with a defeat.

Hockey:

The India women’s hockey team played against Wales and won the match with 3-1. There was a huge expectation from the women’s hockey team and they have actually exceeded the expectations.

Boxing:

Lovlina Borgohain won her match against New Zealand’s Ariane Nicholson. She won in round 16 of the 70 kg category. Mohammad Husammuddin won his pre-quarterfinal match against South Africa’s Amzolele Dyeyi.

Badminton:

India thrashed Sri Lanka with a 5-0 lead in the mixed team event. They defeated Australia 4-1 in the final group stage game.

Marathon:

Nitender Singh Rawat finished 12th in Men’s marathon with a time of 2:19:22.

Swimming:

Srihari Nataraj finished seventh in the men’s 100m backstrokes final with a 51. 31s time. Kushagra Rawat finished last in Men’s 200m freestyle.

Cycling: 

Dinesh Kumar and Vishavjeet Singh finished 19th and 18th in the 4000m individual pursuit qualification. They have missed out on the opportunity to win a medal for India.

Squash:

Joshna Chinappa made it into the pre-quarters with a 3-0 win in the second round. Saurav Ghosal secured a 3-0 against Shamil Wakeel of Sri Lanka. Anahat Singh faced defeat from Wales’ Emily Whitlock.

Gymnastics:

India’s Pranati Nayak and Ruthuraja Nataraj finished 14th and 6th and made it to the final.
