‘Chennai apna Anbuden mein wapas aa gaaya’ – Fans wait with bated breath to catch Chennai and MS Dhoni at the Chepauk after 1426 days
MS Dhoni will be reunited with the Chepauk after three years in the Indian T20 League 2023. The last game that was played here was in 2019. It has been three long years of waiting for the people of Chennai. In the 2018 Indian T20 League, the games were supposed to be held in Chennai, but it was shifted to Pune. The Chepauk had hosted just one game against Kolkata that year.
Chennai won a thriller in 2018 at the Chepauk against Kolkata. In that season, they also won the 2018 Indian T20 League title after a gap of two years due to the match-fixing ban. The Chepauk has been a spinning paradise. Chennai missed the services of Maheesh Theekshana, who bowled an incredible Super Over against New Zealand. Chennai will want to give their home crowd a night to remember as they lost a close game against Gujarat in Ahmedabad.
Mark Wood picked up a five-wicket haul for Lucknow against Delhi
They will be up against KL Rahul’s Lucknow side. The Lucknow side also had spin options such as K Gowtham and Ravi Bishnoi. They also have someone like Amit Mishra, who could be named as a substitute. The experienced wrist spinner could be brought in later on considering the Chepauk. Lucknow will be high on confidence after a 50-run win against David Warner’s Delhi. Mark Wood was in roaring form as he picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in the Indian T20 League.
Ironically, Wood had played for Chennai in 2018, but the England fast bowler was ruled out due to injury after playing one game that season. The conditions at the Chepauk will be tested for batters on either side. The positives for Lucknow in the last game were the form of Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran with the bat. Ayush Badoni had also come well in the last game for Lucknow.
It will be interesting to see how Dhoni marshals his troops at the Chepauk. Chennai has held a fort at this ground and has an amazing win percentage at home. The ‘Yellove Army’ will hope for a change in fortunes considering they are back at their stronghold. It will be a packed crowd at the Chepauk with the ‘Dhoni Dhoni’ chants. One can be sure the decibels will go through the roof at the ground.
Let us take a look at the reactions here:

it's hard to describe how emotional it feels to see MS Dhoni and the team return to their home ground after so long. Chepauk Stadium is where the team's legacy was built, and seeing a jam-packed stadium
