Chelsea make enquiry to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United

Chelsea have made a shocking enquiry about the availability of Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, according to a report on Saturday. It is still unclear what Manchester United’s stance is regarding this deal.

Manchester United’s skipper is in the midst of a horrible time of late and there has been a major question mark over his future at United. So far this season, Maguire has led his team to two awful defeats, including the embarrassing 4-0 loss to Brentford.

The central defender is not a certain starter when United takes on Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday (August 22). And Chelsea seem to have enquired about a potential swap deal involving American star Christian Pulisic. Chelsea have spent the majority of the summer reconstructing their backline, having lost some of their key personnel.

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively. Malang Sarr has gone to Monaco on loan, and there continues to be speculation that Marcos Alonso will also leave the Blues. Though Kalidou Koulibaly has been brought in from Napoli and Marc Cucurella has joined from Brighton, there is still room to reinforce the back line further. And with the ace defender Thiago Silva on the verge of turning 38, a move for Maguire, 29, could be a move to address Chelsea’s defense for the long term.

Raphael Varane being benched in the first two Premier League games is pushing for a start in Erik ten Hag’s line-up. And after two damaging losses, the Dutch boss might look to make some changes. If Maguire gets dropped in the encounter against Jurgen Klopp’s side, there could be a major question mark over his future.
