In a heated Indian Premier League match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), controversy struck towards the end of SRH’s innings. Avesh Khan bowled a full toss, which initially appeared to be a no-ball. However, the third umpire withheld the on-field umpire’s decision, causing confusion and agitation among the players and the crowd.

The crowd’s frustration spilled over to the LSG dugout, momentarily disrupting the proceedings. This disturbance affected LSG’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Heinrich Klaasen, who lost his concentration and missed out on what would have been a well-deserved half-century. The controversy stemmed from the third umpire’s controversial reversal of the no-ball decision, further infuriating the SRH fans in the stadium.

Amidst the chaos, the crowd began chanting “Kohli, Kohli,” a reference to the renowned cricketer, while Gambhir, associated with the LSG team, was present in the dugout. To make matters worse, objects such as nuts and bolts were thrown at the LSG dugout, hampering SRH’s momentum. The fact that such items made their way inside the ground remains a mystery, raising concerns about security measures.

During the mid-innings break, Klaasen expressed his disappointment, both with the unruly behaviour of the crowd and the questionable umpiring decisions. He acknowledged that the crowd disturbance and the unfavourable umpiring calls had broken SRH’s momentum, leaving a sour taste in their mouths as they headed into the second innings.

In terms of the match itself, SRH posted a respectable total of 182 for six after opting to bat first. However, their batters failed to convert their starts into big scores, and it was Heinrich Klaasen who emerged as the top-scorer with a rapid 29-ball 47. Lucknow Super Giants’ spin all-rounder, Krunal Pandya, was the standout performer with the ball, taking two wickets while conceding 24 runs in his four overs.

As the match progressed, the controversy and crowd trouble overshadowed the cricketing action on the field. It became a talking point, highlighting the need for better crowd management and security measures to ensure the safety and integrity of the game.
