‘Chalo Hitman se ek last hope hai ab’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma reportedly set to lead Indian team in 20-20 World Cup next year
Amid the ongoing speculations around the future of Indian cricket, sources claim that India skipper Rohit Sharma is going to lead the Indian T20I team after a gap of one year. According to various news reports, Rohit will lead India’s T20 team in South Africa and in the T20 World Cup next year.
On the other hand, star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul is likely to lead the ODI squad on the South Africa tour. This comes after the Indian Cricket Board, along with head coach Rahul Dravid and team management, held a meeting in Delhi. The official announcement is yet to be made, but if sources are to be believed, Rohit is set to return as skipper in the T20I squad.
It’s worth noting that after a humiliating defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Rohit refrained from participating in the shortest format of the game. However, in the absence of Hardik Pandya, the board and selectors have reportedly convinced him to lead the team until the upcoming T20 World Cup. The 36-year-old batter will also lead the team in Test cricket.
Will Virat Kohli make a comeback in the T20 format?
It’s worth noting that after Rohit’s comeback, there is speculation that Virat Kohli will also be part of the squad. However, he has asked for indefinite leave from white-ball cricket from the board. Things will be clear once the board reveals the details of the meeting, which took place on Thursday in the national capital of India, Delhi.
It’s worth noting that the meeting was aimed at reviewing India’s performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023. The host team won ten games in a row until the finals but failed in the last leg as they were thrashed by the Australian team. However, Rohit and Kohli’s comeback in T20Is will also trigger a debate about India’s bench strength in the shortest format of the game.
Here is how fans react to Rohit Sharma’s reported comeback:
