Yuzvendra Chahal had a fruitful IPL career at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) where he picked up 139 wickets in 113 matches. The leg-spinner had an average of 22.3 and a wonderful economy rate of 7.58 considering that he played most of his games at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In 2022, he switched bases and moved to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL. He recently talked about the snub from RCB at the IPL 2022 auction.

Chahal was a champion bowler of the side and became the leading wicket-taker while he played for them. He talked about RCB giving the cold shoulder to him on YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadiya’s podcast. “Definitely, I felt very sad. My journey started with RCB. I spent eight years with them. RCB gave me a chance, and I got an India cap because of them,” Chahal said. “From the very first match, Virat bhaiya showed me trust. So, it felt bad, because it almost feels like family when you spend 8 years at a team. Chahal added.

I think that I grew as a cricketer at RR  -Yuzvendra Chahal

“A lot of rumours came in, like I asked for huge amount of money. I clarified at the time that there wasn’t anything like that. I know what I deserve,” he said. “What I felt really bad about was there was no phone call, no communication. At least have a talk.“I had played 114 matches for them. In auction, they promised me that they will go all-out for me. I said, fine. “When I wasn’t picked there, I was very angry. I gave them 8 years. Chinnaswamy was my favourite ground. I didn’t talk to RCB coaches. The first match I played against them, I didn’t talk to anyone,”

Chahal said that the switch to RR did wonders for him as he improved on an unexplored facet of his bowling, which was in the death overs. Chahal also hailed Ravichandran Ashwin for helping him and RR skipper Sanju Samson for supporting him. In previous interviews, Chahal has hailed Samson as a captain. Chahal has taken 48 wickets in 31 games for RR in the two seasons that he has played for them in 2022 and 2023.

“I realise the auction is a very unpredictable place. So, I made peace with the fact that whatever happens, happens for good. At RR, I started bowling at death. Often, my quota would be completed before 16 overs in RCB. So, I think I grew as a cricketer in RR as well. So, whatever happened, happened for good,” Chahal said regarding the move.
