‘Century vs West Indies despite muscle pain’ – Fans recall Manoj Tiwary’s knock as he announces retirement

Manoj Tiwary, at the age of 37 has announced his retirement from international cricket. The Bengal cricketer played 15 international matches for India in limited-overs formats. In One Day Internationals, Tiwary played 12 matches and in T20 Internationals, Manoj played 3 matches for India. The right-handed batter also played 98 matches in the Indian Premier League for different teams.  

In 12 ODIs, Tiwary scored 287 runs at an average of 26.09, at a strike rate of 71.22, including a hundred and a fifty. In T20 internationals, Manoj Tiwary got to bat in one inning and scored 15 runs in 17 deliveries. In the Indian Premier League, Tiwary scored 1695 runs in 85 innings at an average of 28.73, at a strike rate of 116.98, including 7 fifty-plus scores.  

A great performer in domestic cricket

Tiwary’s best performances undoubtedly came for his domestic team, Bengal. In first-class cricket, Tiwary played 141 matches and scored 9909 runs at an average of 48.6. In List A games, Tiwary scored 5581 runs in 169 matches at an average of 42.3, at a strike rate of 83.5. Apart from his batting abilities, Tiwary was also known for his part-time bowling.  

In the IPL 2011, Tiwary gave his best performance. In 11 innings, Tiwary scored 359 runs at an average of 51.29, at a strike rate of 110.46, including a fifty. In the IPL 2017, Tiwary played a crucial role as a finisher in Rising Pune Super Giants. In 13 innings in the season, Tiwary scored 324 runs, at an average of 32.40, at a strike rate of 137.29, including 2 fifty. The former KKR player was a part of the KKR team which won the Indian Premier League in 2012.  

2017 was probably the last time Tiwary was seen at his best. In the following years, the middle-order batter hardly got any chances in the Indian Premier League. In recent years, Tiwary was seen as an analyst in some of the cricket shows. Tiwary is also the Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports in the West Bengal cabinet.
