‘Buzurgo ko inka khel dikhao’- Twitter elated as ‘young’ India team defeats New Zealand by a massive 65 runs in second T20I
Team India has traveled to New Zealand with the hope to get the disappointment of the 20-20 World Cup loss behind them. With a significant change to the squad, the Hardik Pandya-led side looks to make a compelling case for a split squad that the board is pondering upon.
After the first match of the three-match T20I series was washed out, both teams clashed in the second in Bay Oval. The weather forecast had predicted a washout in Mount Maunganui, but the fans were treated to a full game after dark clouds gave way to sunlight in the New Zealand city.
Kiwi captain Kane Williamson won the toss and invited India to put runs on the scoreboard. With a changed opening pair in Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant, India would have thought of showcasing an aggressive approach but they failed to as Pant got out at just 6 in 13 balls.
It was however only Suryakumar Yadav’s day after he came in next and started to belt every bowler out of the boundary line. The 32-year-old showcased great batting and played a sensational knock of 111 runs in just 51 balls. Suryakumar hit 11 fours and 7 sixes and played with a fiery strike rate of 217.65 to take India to a massive total of 191 runs.
The Kiwi batters had no reply for the monumental target as they began quite poorly in the second innings. On the very second ball, Finn Allen was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and since then the New Zealand team could never recover.
Captain Williamson lingered in the middle with his 61 off of 52 but did not impart confidence in the team and could only muster 126 on the board. As a result of it, New Zealand were handed a massive defeat of 65 runs in the second T20I.
