Jasprit Bumrah has not had the best of times as an India cricketer in recent months. He is yet to recover from a back injury and was not given clearance from the National Cricket Academy to come back and play competitive cricket. He recently played a couple of games at the Indian Cricket Board’s Bengaluru facility.
It has also been reported that Bumrah will directly come in and play the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League. He had copped a lot of flak for this on social media. Bumrah was not named in the Indian ODI squad for Australia because he did not get clearance and ended up missing the Test series as well. The management does not want Bumrah to come in haste which might cause problems for him, later.
Bumrah missed the 20-20 World Cup in Australia due to injury
As per some reports, the Indian Cricket Board will issue a conditional no objection certificate for Bumrah to take part during the Indian T20 League and he could be subject to certain restrictions, which would also mean that his workload will be monitored regularly, considering that this year the ODI World Cup will take place in India.
Conditional NOCs with restrictions have been issued to foreign players in the past saying that they would be allowed to bowl only a specific number of balls in the nets and other conditions. The foreign boards do this to monitor the workload of the overseas players. It remains to be seen when Bumrah eventually comes back to the Indian side.
Bumrah last played in a T20I against Australia just before the 20-20 World Cup and also he missed the T20I and ODI series against South Africa just before the World event. He also missed the 20-20 World Cup which was held in Australia in 2022. Since Indian T20 League 2022, India have played 69 matches across formats, out of which, Bumrah has played only six of them.
