The Indian Cricket Board sacked the entire selection committee led by Chetan Sharma on Friday. The shocking move came after India’s semi-final exit from the 20-20 World Cup. In a press release, Indian Cricket Board secretary, Jay Shah, invited applications for five positions by November 28. The job description for the incoming selectors clearly states: “Appoint captain for the team in each format.”

The board is looking to appoint separate captains for each format of the game. With Hardik Pandya already being touted as the replacement for Rohit Sharma in T20Is, fans are demanding the board to re-appoint Virat Kohli as the Test captain.

Kohli stepped down from the captaincy, earlier, this year after India lost to South Africa by 1-2 in the three-match series in January. The former Indian captain finished as the fourth-most successful captain in the history of the format with 40 wins to his name in 68 matches with a win percentage of 58.82.

Under Kohli’s leadership, India won their first-ever Test series in Australia in 2018-19 with a margin of 2-1. India only lost two tests on home soil with Kohli at the helm. Under Kohli’s reign, India were awarded the coveted ‘Test Mace’ for finishing as the no.1 Test team on five occasions. Since the 34-year-old gave up the Test captaincy, Rohit Sharma has captained India in two Tests against Sri Lanka and won both of them.

India also played the postponed fifth match of the Tests series against England this year where Jasprit Bumrah was given the responsibility of captaining the side. India went on to lose the Test which resulted in the series being tied 2-2 jeopardizing their lead of 2-1 last year under Kohli’s captaincy.

Just months after being handed the Test captaincy, Virat Kohli in June 2015 while speaking to ESPNcricinfo had said, “I strongly want to see the Indian team dominate for at least five or six years. We certainly have the talent. We certainly have the ability. All that it will take is how you manage that and keep them together.”

The Delhi-batter stood true to his words and took the team from the 7th position to the No. 1 position in the rankings. Remembering India’s golden run under Kohli, fans have been asking the Indian Cricket Board to bring back Kohli. Here are some of the best Tweets:
