India vs Australia 2023

Brett Lee picks Australia’s future spinner when it comes to Test cricket

Australia are trailing 0-2 in the Test series against India

Australia have lost the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and they have lost both Tests inside three days. Australia lost the first Test by an innings and 123 runs and also lost the second Test by 6 wickets. Debutant Todd Murphy has been the lone bright spot for the Australians.

Murphy picked 7-124 in the Nagpur Test which was his debut. Former Australian cricketer Brett Lee talked about Murphy. He also picked up 2-53 and 1-22 at the Delhi Test. The spin trio of Nathan Lyon Matt Kuhemann and Murphy have caused problems to the Indian batters in the series so far.

“Who after Nathan Lyon? Well, it looks like they found their answer in the young 22-year-old superstar off-spinner Todd Murphy. What a sensational debut it was for Australia. Australia lost the match by a whopping margin but Todd Murphy made the world sit up and take notice.”  Lee said on his YouTube channel.

What a debut it was – Brett Lee on Todd Murphy

“In the only innings that Australia bowled, he picked up 7/124. Five wickets were the wickets of KL Rahul, Ravi Ashwin, Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Ravi Jadeja. What a dream debut it was. He did so in the presence of his family all the way in Nagpur.” Lee added. Murphy has been hyped in the Australian cricketing circles as the next Nathan Lyon.

Lee talked about Murphy’s comparison to Shane Warne who was a great icon for Australia. He said that Murphy will be tested in Test Cricket as he will be exposed to a lot of different conditons but he wants Murphy to continue the good work with the ball after a dream debut.

“His father reckons Todd Murphy has the finding qualities of Shane Warne. It’s a big call and he’ll be tested at this level in times to come but having become the 35th Aussie to take a five-wicket haul on debut, the spotlight would never stop chasing him in this series and thereafter.” Australia will look to Murphy to provide a spark in the final two Test matches
