‘Breathtaking innings from Rahane’ -Fans react as Ajinkya Rahane scores sparkling innings of 89 against Australia in 2023 WTC final
Ajinkya Rahane showed why he has still got it in him to succeed in Test cricket after a long hiatus. India at the start of the day 2 in the World Test Championship final (WTC) were reeling at 152-6 after they lost the early wicket of KS Bharat. Then it took some excellent rear-guard action from Rahane and Thakur to take the fight to an in-form Australia. The duo saw off a good display of fast bowling and have somehow managed to give India a slight glimmer of hope.
Rahane showed nerves of steel even after he was hit on the finger yesterday. The Mumbaikar received support from a fellow Mumbaikar in the form of Thakur. In 2021, the man from Mumbai had scored a gorgeous innings of 60 to help India win a Test match against England.
At Lunch, Thakur was unbeaten on 36 off 83 balls with four fours. Rahane showed grit and tenacity in his knock and remained unbeaten on 89 off 122 balls with 11 fours and one six. Rahane then got out in the post lunch session on the same score.
Shardul Thakur and Ajinkya Rahane put on an unbeaten partnership of 108 runs
The two fought hard, took some blows and were beaten by the Australians with the ball a number of teams but they still came through unscathed and fought for each and every run to give India a tiny opening in a WTC final that has been all Australia’s till now. The two got together and nearly batted out an entire session. The duo are unbeaten on 108 off 133 balls. Thakur took hits on his left and right arm but rode through the tough times and gritted his teeth.
Meanwhile, India have only themselves to blame for being in this position as a below-par bowling performance saw India milk runs at will and made India concede 469 in the first innings. Steve Smith and Travis Head were India’s chief tormentors as they got superb centuries and also put up a cracking partnership of 285 runs to send the Indian bowlers on a leather hunt. The Indian top order did not do well as some of the shots that they played were audacious.

Ajinkya Rahane, played exceptionally well for his 89 off 129.
Falling short of a well-deserved century by just 11 runs, an innings that was truly remarkable and one that will be remembered for years to come. 🇮🇳 #WTCFinal2023 pic.twitter.com/8GAZwV1rM5
