The Indian team has announced their much-awaited squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup. In the press conference in Kandy, India announced the 15-member squad for the big tournament, which will be happening in their own backyard. India was only the third team after West Indies and Australia to win the ODI World Cup twice, when they achieved the feat in 2011. 

In the same tournament, India became only the first team to win a World Cup final in home conditions. Since then, India has not won a single ODI World Cup. In fact, India has won only one major tournament since then, the 2013 Champions Trophy. Hence, all eyes were on the announcement of the Indian squad to see if it was good enough to bring the title home. 

The Indian squad for the tournament has some fantastic names. Rohit Sharma will lead the side, as expected. There is the presence of the star cricketer Virat Kohli, who also has a lot of experience. Hardik Pandya will be the deputy for Sharma. There are other experienced campaigners like Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami, which will be helpful for the team. Apart from them, the rest of the squad is of younger players. 

Obvious choices and snubs in the Indian squad

The batting unit has the likes of Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer who can deliver on the big stage. Among them, Kishan and Rahul can keep wickets, which is an added advantage. Kishan. Both can bat in different positions as well. There are All-rounders like Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, and Axar Patel, who can contribute to the team in different departments.  

The bowling attack looks fantastic as well. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav make it to the side along with Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami. There are some players who have missed out from the contention. The likes of Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Prasidh Krishna could not make it to the Indian squad. Chahal was in the Indian team in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
