Stuart Broad has had a Test career that he can look back and admire on. In red-ball cricket for England. The 37-year-old has taken 602 wickets in 167 games at a strike rate of 55.7 and an economy rate of 2.97. But one incident of Broad throughout his illustrious career that will remain with him is getting hit for six sixes in an over by Yuvraj Singh in the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa. When it happened at that time, it could have shaken a person massively but, Broad rose from the Ashes to become one of England’s greatest bowlers.

Broad said that the Oval Test in Ashes 2023 will be his last, later in the evening, he was quizzed as to what was his mindset after getting hit by Yuvraj for six sixes and how he came back from that. In that game, Yuvraj had a heated argument with Andrew Flintoff. Then the left-hander unleashed all his anger on Broad by depositing him for six sixes in an over at Durban and also hitting a fast half-century off just 12 balls. India just eked out England by 18 runs in a high-scoring match.

The six sixes incident steeled me up as a competitor – Stuart Broad

“Yeah, it was obviously a pretty tough day. What would I have been: 21, 22? [22] I learnt loads. I pretty much based a whole mental routine through that experience knowing that I was left very short as an international performer in that moment. I’d rushed my preparation. I didn’t have any sort of pre-ball routine. I didn’t have any focus, particularly, and I started building my ‘warrior mode’ that I call it after that experience.” Broad said.

“Ultimately, of course, I wish that didn’t happen. I think what really helped me was it was a dead rubber, so it didn’t feel like I’d knocked us out of the World Cup or something. But I think it steeled me up to make me the competitor I am to this day and has driven me forward a huge amount,”  Broad added. When it comes to ODIs, Broad scalped 121 wickets in 178 matches for England with an economy rate of 5.26

Ultimately I think it is that bounce-back ability and that ability to be able to put poor days behind you because certainly one thing over the past whatever – 15, 16 years – you have a lot more bad days than good days in cricket so you have to be able to deal with them to make sure your good days can flourish,”  He further emphasised.
