Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad drew swords against each other at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium. The coin went the way of RR and they elected to bat first. RR got off to a terrific start, courtesy of Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander made a quickfire 35 off 18 balls with five fours and two sixes. He was caught by T Natarajan off Marco Jansen. This allowed Jos Buttler to take his time and settle in. When Jos was in his zone and got the hang of the pitch he made the SRH bowlers pay dearly.

The Englishman mounted an onslaught and made his way to a stroke-filled 95 off 59 balls with 10 fours and two sixes.  He was dismissed lbw by Bhuneshwar Kumar to end his innings. Unlike the 2022 IPL, Buttler has not hit form this year. When he made those precious runs, there was a lot of pressure on his shoulders. His form is a big positive for RR as it comes at a time when they have lost four of their last five games in IPL 2023. Sanju Samson showed his naysayers what he was made of.

The RR skipper came in at number three and belted the SRH bowlers all over the park. He made a sumptuous unbeaten 66 off 38 balls with four fours and five sixes. This allowed RR to post a gigantic total of 214-2 in their 20 overs. In the second innings, SRH came out swinging.

Anmolpreet Singh made a fast 33 off 25 balls with four fours and one six. Abhishek Sharma took on the RR bowlers and made a good 55 off 34 balls with five fours and two sixes. Heinrich Klaasen was sent up the order but it was to no avail. He was caught by Butler off Yuzvendra Chahal. Rahul Tripathi played a good hand of 47 off 29 balls but he was no match for Chahal’s guile. In the over that he dismissed Tripathi, Chahal also saw the back of Aiden Markram.

The wrist-spinner picked up 4-29 in his four overs.  In the 19th over, the game appeared to be going the way of RR but Glenn Philips brought life back into the game by smashing Kuldip Yadav for three sixes and a four to give some hope. But he was dismissed in the same over. 17 were needed off the last over. Abdul Samad and Marco Jansen produced some good hitting in the last over with Samad hitting the winning six to give SRH a breath-taking four-wicket win.
