‘Bhai, yeh ‘dedication’ hota hai’- Fans react as Nepal supporters climb trees to watch World Cup qualifier match against UAE

Nepal ended up with a hard-fought 9-run victory against UAE in a qualifying game for the World Cup. It was a rain-curtailed match that took place in Kirtpur. The coin went the way of UAE and they decided to bat first. UAE got 310-6 in their 50 overs. Asif Khan made a blistering 101 off 42 balls, and Vriitya Aravind and Muhammad Waseem 94 and 63 runs respectively.

But the highlight of the game came from the passionate Nepal fans who climbed trees to watch the match. The Tribhuvan International University Cricket Ground was packed to the rafters as an ocean of die-hard cricket fans flooded the stadium. This highlighted the passion and dedication of the Nepal fans who could be seen climbing and jumping on trees to witness the game between Nepal and UAE.

In the second innings, when the score read 269-6 in 44 overs which were scored by Nepal, the rain came down and played spoilsport. The Nepal team, led by Rohit Paudel, were declared the eventual winners on DLS method by 9 runs. The match was thoroughly enjoyed by the fans and ended up being a high-scoring game. England batter Danni Wyatt was full of appreciation for the cricket-loving fans at Nepal. She put out her comment on the picture that was doing the rounds on social media.  “Wowza,” her comment read.

The bowlers from both sides had a great day with the ball. For Nepal, Dipendra Singh picked up two wickets. While the trio of Sandeep Lamichhane, Sompal Kami and Bhim Rajbanshi could manage to pick up just one wicket each. When it came to the batters, Bhim Sharki and Aarif Shiekh were the batters who did most of the heavy lifting as they scored 67 and 52 runs respectively.

Junaid Siddique picked up three scalps for UAE and Afzal Khan got two for his side. When it came to the tournament, this is the last clash of World Cup League 2. Scottland and Oman are sitting pretty at the top and have booked their place for the 2023 World Cup.
