Bangladesh and India faced off in the first Test of the two-match contest that kicked off on December 14, Wednesday and the Indian camp took less time than expected to wrap the Bangla Tigers’ tail, who were chasing a target of 513. To add more, at the start of the day, Bangladesh were 241 runs away from the win with captain Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan at the crease.

However, the KL Rahul-led Indian team did not take much time to clean the tail and seal the win for India, to take a 1-0 lead in the series. As far as India’s bowling is concerned, it was Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav who stood up for the team with their four-for and three-for respectively, proving their might yet again.

Team India were bowled out for 404 in their first innings, eventually restricting Bangladesh to 150 in the second innings. With a lead of 254, India added another 258 runs to their scoreboard in their second innings on the back of centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara and opener Shubman Gill, setting a mammoth total for the Bangla Tigers.

It was a really good wicket to bat on: Shakib Al Hasan

Post the wicket, Bangladesh’s skipper Shakib opened up on the loss and admitted to the team’s failure to capitalize on the batting-friendly wicket. Saying that his team fell short of being at par with India, Shakib did not shy away from crediting the Indian bowlers for their intent and aggressive style of bowling.

“It was a really good wicket to bat on but we didn’t bat well (in the first innings). Playing after 5-6 months, it wasn’t ideal but there should be no excuses. Lot of credit to India the way they bowled. They bowled in partnerships and created pressure,” Shakib was quoted as saying post the conclusion of the match.

“He (Zakir Hasan) has been scoring a lot of runs in domestic runs, that’s why we picked him. Hopefully, he scores a lot more centuries for Bangladesh. We have to play good cricket for all five days. We have to play four good innings to be able to get a result especially against India,” said Bangladesh skipper further.
