‘Bhai recover hoja but WC mat khel’ – Fans react to Kane Williamson being hopeful to play in One-day World Cup 2023
After examinations indicated that Kane Williamson had torn his anterior cruciate ligament whilst playing in an IPL 2023 game, the New Zealand ODI skipper was eliminated from the World Cup, which will be held in India in October-November. He had surgery three weeks after getting hurt, and it took him a long time to heal, so he is virtually out of the big game.
Kane Williamson was hurt at the opening match of the IPL 2023 at Ahmedabad while attempting to catch Ruturaj Gaikwad during the 13th over in the Chennai Super Kings’ innings. He was spotted writhing in discomfort at the boundary line while saving two runs for his team, the Gujarat Titans.
The injured right-hander was substituted with Sai Sudharsan, who was later declared ineligible. Dasun Shanaka replaces him in the competition.
“The journey is a bit of a long one so…”: Kane Williamson
Despite needing time to recuperate from a right knee injury, Kane Williamson is adamant about helping New Zealand compete in the 50-over format at the World Cup. Williamson prioritizes knee recovery, aiming to be physically ready for the World Cup in India. He declared his steadfast dedication to ensuring his knee was repaired correctly, placing it above an immediate return to the cricket pitch.
As reported by the Times of India, Kane Williamson said, “I haven’t had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one, so if you look too far ahead, it probably can become a little bit daunting. Whereas, one week at a time, ticking off those small markers, those little wins that are nice to experience. But also knowing that the journey won’t be completely smooth and you have a few setbacks along the way that you have to navigate.”
