The Indian T20 League will start on March 31. Chennai and the defending champions, Gujarat will play the first game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The tournament will have some new rules that will be in focus this edition. One is the impact player rule. This rule states that a substitute can come into bat and bowl. The impact player should be Indian unless there are fewer than four foreign players in the playing XI.

When the Impact player comes in, the player who gets replaced will take no further part in the game. The impact player can be utilized at any time during the match. The sign for the impact player to be made by the umpire was released in a picture by the Indian Express.

The sign involves the umpire making a cross with both his hands. It could also resemble a V sign. This is the sign that has come up for the impact player rule. The rule will also add a new dimension to the game. This will make the 16th season more exciting and interesting. On the other hand, the League will take place in the traditional home-and-away format after a gap of three years.

The tournament will be conducted in 12 venues across India. Another rule change that has come about teams naming their playing XIs after the toss. This change was made on the back of the impact player rule. The rule would allow the teams to pick their best XI on the pitch. The sides can also include the appropriate impact player as well.

“Currently the captains have to exchange the teams before the toss,” the note, which was seen by ESPNcricinfo, said. “This has been changed to exchange of teams immediately post the toss, to enable teams to choose the best XI depending on whether they are batting or bowling first. It will also assist the teams to plan for the impact player.”
