India had a horrible start in the morning of day 2 as Nathan Lyon spun a web around India’s batters by first picking up the wickets of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara. India were reduced to 54-3 at one stage. From that point on, India could not come back as Australia were picking up wickets at regular intervals.

Virat Kohli came in at no. 4 and made 44 off 84 balls with four fours and tried to rebuild the innings for India but he was out lbw to debutant left-arm spinner Mathew Kuhnemann. The way Kohli was dismissed was controversial.

The umpires deemed that the ball hit the pad first and Kohli was given out. There could have been a case where Kohli could have edged the ball and also since it was just marginally hitting the wickets on Hawk-eye.

Virat Kohli has had his problems against spin in the recent times specially in Test cricket

Kohli was not happy with the decision and walked back to the changing room in a huff and was very grumpy about the decision. It was agony for the Indian camp as they felt hard done by the decision but Australia celebrated the big wicket of Kohli and also the umpire’s decision as it came in their favour. Lyon, further, dented India by picking up wickets of Shreyas Iyer and KS Bharat.

The Delhi-batter has had his problems with wrist spin and finger spin. One of the reasons could be that Kohli plays a lot of international cricket and plays a lot of pace and faces lesser amount of spin or slower bowlers which has led to his fall with regards to his technique against spin. He has been having this problem across formats for quite some time.

The former India captain has been in stellar form in ODIs and T20Is for India. He, recently, scored a string of ODI centuries and also broke into the list of the top five run-getters in ODI cricket and also was India’s best batter in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. On the other hand, his Test form has not been up to the mark as he has struggled to score in this format.

Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter with regards to Kohli’s dismissal:
