‘Best hide and seek team in ISL’ – Fans bewildered as Kerala Blasters stage walk out in protest over controversial decision against Bengaluru FC
Bengaluru FC, courtesy of their 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters, earned a well-deserved semi-final berth and their 9th win on the trot in the Indian Super League but it came controversially through a decision awarded by the referee on Friday. Bengaluru FC scored a solitary goal in the match, thanks to Sunil Chhetri.
He scored in the 7th minute of extra time but the blasters were not appreciative of how the goal had transpired. Discussion took place between the Blasters and the referee following which the blasters stayed a walkout in protest and the game was ruled in favour of BFC after the BFC players had waited for a long time.
In the seventh minute of extra time, Chhetri scored the goal via a free kick and the ball flew into the back of the net. After that point, the Blasters left the field and were furious as to how Bengaluru were awarded the goal. After waiting for some time, BFC were declared winners and will now take on Mumbai City FC in a two-leg semi-final which will take place on March 7 and March 12 respectively.
The Kerala Blasters had more possession right through the match
The Blasters were on top of things in the first half but could not penetrate through Bengaluru’s defence. The Blues left the defending to the able hands of Sivasakthi Narayanan and Roy Krishna who did very well for their side. The hosts had six shots in the first part of the game but only one of them was on target.
The second half also went in the same vein as the Blasters had more possession as the hosts were hot on their heels and ready to pounce at the right moment. In the final moments before extra time, the Blasters were attacking from all corners but the Bengaluru defence pinned the Blaster’s attack down with great fortitude and tactics.
There were chances aplenty created on both sides but there was only one goal scored in the match. The rivalry between BFC and the Blasters has been a feisty one and this time Bengaluru got the better of Kerala.

The debate over Sunil Chhetri's goal should not overshadow his status as our captain, leader, and a renowned legend.
It's time we stopped criticizing him.#BFCKBFC #HeroISL #SunilChhetri #BengaluruFC #KeralaBlasters pic.twitter.com/i3mIwhpvbX

Good decision by Ivan Vukomanovic and team to walk out. This is really shameful from the referees. Such errors are enough to spoil Indian football and ISL. A Team like Kerala with coch Ivan deserved a better league. #KeralaBlasters pic.twitter.com/owV8vRRrXP
