The Indian T20 League kickstarted with a thriller between Gujarat and Chennai on Friday at Narendra Modi Stadium. Gujarat beat Chennai by five wickets to make a winning start. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill were the top batters for their respective teams. Gaikwad made 92 off 50 balls with nine fours and four sixes, while Gill amassed 63 off 36 balls, including six fours and three sixes.
MS Dhoni came in late but played a handy knock of 11 runs in 4 balls. He hit one four and one six during his innings. Amidst that, the Bhojpuri commentary in the Indian T20 League has been making waves on social media. When Dhoni hit his first six of the season on Friday, Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan left fans in splits with his Bhojpuri commentary. Chennai notched 178-7 while batting first in the first game. Moeen Ali amassed 23 off 17 balls, a knock which was laced with four fours and one six. The Gujarat bowlers made great use of the bounce at the Ahmedabad pitch. Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph picked up two wickets each in their four over spells. In the second innings, Saha got the side off to a good start with a handy knock.
Sai Sudarshan was the second impact player to be used in the Indian T20 League. Tushar Deshpande was the first to be used. Vijay Shankar provided impetus in the middle. He made 27 off 21 balls with two fours and one six. The game was finished off by Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan. The duo were calm under pressure. There was a period when Chennai came back with wickets and bowled some dots balls.
However, Tematia and Khan calmed the nerves. Tewatia amassed 15 off 14 balls with one four and one six, while Rashid made 10 off 3 balls with one four and one six. The Hardik Pandya-led side trumped Dhoni’s side in the match. It was a great way to start the Indian T20 League.
