‘Bas yehi reh gya hai’ -Fans react as Rohit Sharma takes photoshoot with five IPL trophies

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has reached its halfway stage and the action has been very electric so far. The close last-ball finishes have ridden the fans off their nails. The quality of cricket on all fronts has been outstanding. The 16th Edition of the league has already seen some wonderful cricket on show. The tournament continues to amaze the cricket-loving public with each passing day.

Meanwhile, a photo of Rohit Sharma posing with the five IPL trophies that he has one for Mumbai Indians (MI) has gone viral on social media. In the image, Rohit can be seen sitting on a grassy lawn with all the five IPL trophies. He won them in 2013, 2015 2017, 2019 and 2020. MI have been one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. They have made it to the playoffs nine times. They have been very consistent when it comes to winning trophies.

MI are currently placed at eighth position in the 2023 points table

MI have not been at their best though this season. They have had injury concerns. Jhye Richardson was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The same for Jasprit Bumrah as well. Jofra Archer is in the side, but he has been missing games due to injury.  This has made MI’s bowling attack look very brittle. With the bowling attack that they had, they have been conceding big totals and have also in most cases not been able to defend well.

Their batting has also not been up to the mark as their big Indian players have been inconsistent. The likes of Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Vadhera have not been able to deliver the goods all the time. This has in turn put extra pressure on the likes of Tim David and Cameron Green who have pretty much shouldered the batting responsibility on their own. MI also do not have a gun Indian bowler to replace Bumrah which has rendered the attack powerless.

The Rohit-led side really wanted to see Archer and Bumrah bowl in tandem but that did not happen as both of them have been hit by injuries. Though Archer will come back into the side, it will be interesting to see how he copes up when the IPL season ends. Not to forget Archer has an Ashes series coming up.
