‘Bas jaake desh ke liye medal lana hai,’- Ravi Kumar Dahiya wants to win medals for India at CWG 2022
Ravi Kumar Dahiya has been in great form over the last year or so. The 24-year-old wrestler from Nahri village in Sonipat won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year. He also won a gold medal at the Asian Championship in Mongolia. This was Dahiya’s 3rd gold medal at the Asian Championship overall. The young Turk, recently, expresses his desire to continue his good form in the CWG as well.
” Training zor shor se chal rahi hai bhaisaab bas jaake desh ke liye medal lana hai,” Ravi Dahiya said on the sidelines while gearing up for his maiden CWG stint.
Almost a year has passed since Ravi stood on the Tokyo podium. He had gone on record and said that he wants to better the colour of his Olympic medal. But, before that happens in 2024, Dahiya wants to get gold in the set of 3 which means the Commonwealth games gold, Asian games gold, and Olympic gold. The Asian gold will have to wait for one more year. But in Birmingham on August 6th will be Ravi’s big chance to get a gold at the CWG.
“For me, winning the gold medal is the main target,” Ravi, who is participating in his first CWG said. After his silver at the Olympics. People and the country and the wrestling enthusiasts in the country want more from him “He is no more the unknown quantity for the nation like he was before the Tokyo games. Now he has a reputation to live up to” One of the coaches associated with the men’s wrestling team said.
The Commonwealth Games is unlikely to challenge a pedigreed wrestler like Ravi Dahiya. The reason is that none of the world’s top wrestlers in the 57 kg category are part of the Commonwealth which will make Ravi’s path to victory easier.
“I am not going to take it (CWG) lightly – not by any means., when I am representing India I can never be casual. He said.
Ravi’s CWG fate will be decided on August 6th at the Coventry Arena. There will be an entire country behind Ravi Dahiya and everyone will be hoping that the medal will be a notch higher than what it was at the Tokyo Olympics.
