In big news that could change the dynamics in Indian cricket, Jasprit Bumrah is set to replace Hardik Pandya as vice-captain ahead of the Asia Cup and the World Cup as per reports. Bumrah had a sensational comeback in the first T20I against Ireland where he took 2-24 in his four overs spell. The Gujarat bowler was also leading the side. Though the game was rain-affected Bumrah was spot on in rotating his bowlers and also got his Decision Review System (DRS) calls right.

Under Pandya, India recorded a series of victories at home against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. But Pandya’s captaincy hit a stumbling block when they lost to the West Indies in a five-match T20I series 3-2. Pandya’s tactics and captaincy were questioned. The India all-rounder also came under fire when he did not let Tilak Varma get to his fifty in the third T20I. Pandya’s bowling changes were also questioned throughout the series. India leads the three-match T20I series against Ireland 1-0. The second game will be played on August 20.

Jasprit Bumrah has remodelled his bowling action to help him stay injury free

India’s Asia Cup squad is also expected to be announced on August 21. It will interesting to see what will be India’s middle-order composition going into the multilateral tournament. Tilak Varma could be thrown into the mix as a middle-order option provided KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer don’t recover in time for the continental tournament. Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar the newly appointed chairman of selectors will brainstorm to pick India’s best possible squad for the Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, it was reported by News 18 that Bumrah has done some slight remodelling to his bowling action so that he stays injury free for a longer duration. A level three coach at the NCA said Bumrah has increased his run up by two or three strides in comparison to what it was earlier. This also enabled Bumrah to have a longer follow through which would allow him to play longer without injury the coach added.
