Barmy Army trolls India amidst Ashes 2023, India fans left scathing
It was a pulsating day of cricket at the Ashes on Day 2 of the first Test match at Edgbaston on Sunday. Australia ended the day on 311-5 with Usman Khawaja unbeaten on 126 off 279 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. Alex Carey is unbeaten on 52 off 80 balls with seven fours and one six. The Kangaroos still trail the three Lions by 82 runs but it seems that they have pulled themselves back to a respectable position after a precarious start. Meanwhile, the popular English fan base Barmy Army kept the Australian team on their heels throughout the day. They were at the Kangaroos and made their presence felt on social media.
On social media, there was a lot of stick given to Australians and also to the Indians. The Barmy Army put out a celebratory tweet to signal that Moeen Ali had returned to Test cricket. Moeen Ali marked a comeback in Test cricket after he replaced Jack Leach
Moeen made a comeback into the white flannels after Jack Leach was ruled out of the Ashes due to injury. So far, Moeen has bowled 29 overs in the match as on Day 2. He conceded 124 runs and picked up two wickets on the day. We could take the troll from the Barmy Army to jibe at India after they had lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final which was held between June 7 to 11 at The Oval. India have lost two WTC finals and the wait for winning a world event continues for the Men in Blue.
Talking about the first Test so far, England made a strong start and got to 393-8 on a flat track. Joe Root ended on an unbeaten 118 of 152 balls with seven fours and four sixes. Jonny Bairstow complemented Root with a stroke-filled run-a-ball 78 which had 12 fours in it, before a sudden declaration followed. Australia, then gave a solid reply to England to even the odds.
