India produced a commanding all-round performance to demolish defending champions England by 100 runs in their World Cup 2023 clash at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on Sunday. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav played well-calculated knocks to steer India to a competitive total of 229/9, despite a poor start that saw the hosts reduced to 40/3. The pitch was on the slower side, but England were favorites to notch up their second victory of the tournament after the first innings.

India’s bowlers wreaked havoc on England’s batting lineup, bowling them out for just 129. England’s batters continued to struggle, as they have throughout the tournament, and slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat. Mohammed Shami was India’s standout bowler, with figures of 4-22. Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja also delivered superb performances, keeping the English batsmen under pressure.

India’s victory has propelled them to the top of the group stage standings with 12 points, while England’s defeat has left them on the brink of elimination, even jeopardizing their qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Barmy Army and Bharat Army engage in banter (Again)

The Bharat Army and the Barmy Army are two of the most passionate and vocal fan groups in cricket. They are known for their witty banter and their unwavering support for their teams. They are regularly involved in banter on social media and the case was no different yesterday. When Virat Kohli got out for a nine-ball duck, the Barmy Army created a morphed image of a duck with Virat Kohli’s face on it, captioned “Just out for a morning walk,” and shared it on social media platform X.

This activity came back to bite them because in England’s innings, there were three players who got ducks, including two greats, Joe Root and Ben Stokes. The Bharat Army then shared a similar edited image with the caption “Just out for an evening walk”. They also posted another image with Ben Stokes on it asking the Barmy Army for some more time to make a cumulative edit. The witty banter between the two fan groups delighted spectators and added to the joy of Indian fans.
